Apply the disclosure rule that belongs to the invoice issuer
Invoice identification requirements vary by country and legal form. Australian ASIC guidance includes invoices among documents carrying the company’s full name and ACN, or an ABN meeting the specified substitution rule. UK invoice guidance separately addresses the company’s legal name and other invoice particulars. Do not turn one jurisdiction’s rule into a universal checklist, and distinguish a unique invoice reference from the number identifying the company itself.
Compare the disclosed entity with the contract and register
Use the information on the invoice to identify the supplier, then compare it with the contracting party and official records. A trading name may require further checking to establish the legal holder. Tax invoice requirements and company disclosure rules should be assessed separately, since the required details can differ by document. UK guidance on business letters and websites illustrates why a rule applying to one communication should not automatically be copied to every invoice.
