A branch does not necessarily create another company
An overseas branch entry commonly records a local establishment of an existing foreign company. A subsidiary, by contrast, may be a separately incorporated legal person. Compare the foreign company’s name and home identifier with the local establishment record, and avoid treating a branch registration number as proof that a new independent company has been formed.
Trace the connection in both jurisdictions
Companies House provides guidance for overseas companies that open UK establishments, including registration and continuing filing obligations. The UK public register can then help locate the resulting record. BRIS supports the connection between participating European business registers; its role is particularly useful when researching a company and a branch in different participating jurisdictions, subject to the information each register supplies.
