Search the legal person behind a transaction
A commercial company register helps identify the legal entity that can enter contracts, hold assets or incur obligations under the applicable law. A website address, franchise name or product brand may belong to a different entity from the one issuing an invoice. Match the full registered name and identifier before relying on an apparently familiar commercial name.
Compare equivalent evidence across borders
The entity type and registering jurisdiction determine which documents are meaningful: a formation certificate, a current extract and filed constitutional documents answer different questions. Companies House, DATA INPI and the European registry guide illustrate these differences. For a cross-border transaction, keep each document’s original legal terminology alongside any translation so that unlike forms are not treated as interchangeable.
