Two registrations can describe one organisation
A nonprofit organisation may be incorporated, registered as a charity, both, or neither, depending on the applicable system and its legal form. An ordinary company entry does not by itself confirm charitable status. Identify the relevant charity regulator and compare the organisation’s name, charity identifier and any separate company number before interpreting its public record.
Look beyond the name of a charitable project
The Charity Commission register supports searches for charities in England and Wales, while Australia’s ACNC register publishes information about registered Australian charities. Their disclosures can help connect a fundraising name to the responsible organisation. Companies House is useful where the organisation also has a corporate structure; use that additional file to reconcile legal identity rather than substitute for the charity regulator’s record.
