Identify the procedure before interpreting the result
Insolvency information may be held in a court register, an official publication or a company filing system. The terminology matters: administration, liquidation and dissolution describe different events, and a petition is not the same as a final order. Search using the company’s registration number where possible so that a similar name does not lead to the wrong proceeding.
Build a dated record of the public notices
For UK companies, The Gazette publishes insolvency notices and government guidance explains how to check liquidation information. European e-Justice provides routes to national insolvency systems. Keep the publication date, proceeding reference and relevant authority with your findings; an older notice needs to be read alongside later events before drawing conclusions about a company’s current position.
