Registry updates are not annual accounts
An annual return or confirmation statement generally concerns specified company information required by the local registry. Financial accounts address a separate reporting purpose. The names, contents and deadlines vary between jurisdictions, so avoid assuming that a document called an annual return elsewhere is equivalent to the UK confirmation statement or contains the same ownership details.
Interpret the document within its own filing system
Companies House explains the UK confirmation statement and publishes the relevant forms. Its accounts guidance covers the separate financial reporting framework. When reviewing a company, record which obligation each filing fulfils and the period or confirmation date it relates to; the presence of one document does not automatically establish that all other filing requirements have been met.
