Determine the return date for the company category
Hong Kong’s Companies Registry uses Form NAR1 for annual returns, but the relevant return date depends on the company category. For an ordinary local private company, the incorporation anniversary is central to the timetable, with specific rules for other categories and re-domiciled companies. Check the official calculation rather than applying a single anniversary rule to every entity. The return records corporate particulars and does not simply confirm payment of a business registration fee.
Check delivery, updates and the separate renewal obligation
The Registry’s guidance explains the delivery window, electronic submission and consequences of late filing. Review the company details before preparing the return and retain confirmation that the document reached the Registry. Sending a form by post is not equivalent to its receipt. Separately, Inland Revenue administers business registration renewal; completing that payment does not replace the annual return. Track the two processes independently to avoid treating one receipt as proof of both obligations.
