Start with a document that actually reports holdings
A public company profile may not contain a complete shareholder list. Relevant information can instead appear in incorporation records, confirmation statements or securities disclosures, depending on the jurisdiction and entity. Establish what the document reports and its effective date before calculating ownership percentages or assuming that a named subscriber still holds the same shares.
Keep a dated chain of ownership evidence
UK confirmation-statement guidance helps explain the reporting context for share information, while SEC EDGAR provides filings for issuers within its disclosure system. GLEIF’s parent relationships concern accounting consolidation and cannot replace a register of members. Record the source of each link in an ownership chain, and label missing or inaccessible information rather than filling gaps with assumptions.
