Use the NEQ to distinguish similarly named enterprises
Québec’s enterprise register can be searched by name or Québec Enterprise Number, known as the NEQ. The identifier connects the registered enterprise to its disclosed information, but the record’s legal form still matters. A company, partnership and individual business should not all be described as incorporated corporations merely because they have a registry entry.
Choose current or historical records deliberately
The Québec government provides the current search route and explains the NEQ, while its older Fichier central des entreprises is a separate historical resource. Use the current register for present identity information and the historical file only when the period requires it. Preserve the language and dates of the record so that an old designation is not mistaken for the enterprise’s current name.
