Confirm that the corporation falls within the federal database
Corporations Canada’s search is designed for corporations created under the federal corporate laws within its scope. It should not be treated as a complete list of every business operating in Canada. Search the corporate name or identifier and check the governing jurisdiction, especially when the business also appears in a provincial registry.
Follow local registrations as separate records
Federal incorporation and provincial registration answer different questions. The government’s extra-provincial guidance explains the need to consider registrations where a federal corporation conducts business, while Canada’s Business Registries helps locate participating records. Keep each provincial entry linked to the original corporation rather than describing every registration as a newly formed legal entity.
